How full insurance with zero excess removes the deposit
A deposit exists to cover the excess — the amount you would owe if the car were damaged. When the excess is zero, there is nothing left for a deposit to cover. That is why, with our full insurance option with zero excess, we do not ask for a deposit at all.
Full insurance with zero excess costs a small daily amount on top of the rental price. In return you don't set any money aside, and you know from the start exactly what your rental will cost.
What happens with CDW and an excess
For drivers aged 21 and over, Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) insurance with an excess is included free of charge. With CDW, the excess amount is paid as a refundable deposit, which is returned after the car is inspected on delivery.
Without the zero-excess option, a refundable deposit may also be requested depending on the vehicle category or your driving experience. If you would rather not leave any deposit, simply choose full insurance with zero excess when you book.
Who qualifies
- The minimum age to rent is 18. Drivers aged 18–20 are covered by basic insurance.
- For CDW insurance the driver must be at least 21 years old with a licence held for at least 1 year.
- Your driving licence must have been issued at least one year ago.
- Citizens of non-EU countries also need a valid international driving licence.
The zero-excess option is offered alongside CDW for drivers aged 21 and over. If you are 18–20, message us before booking and we will tell you exactly what applies to you.
Documents you need
- Tourists and visitors: passport, your home-country driving licence, and an International Driving Permit (IDP) if your licence was issued outside the EU.
- Greek residents: ID card or passport and a Greek driving licence.
